New!
"[Broken Beaks] takes
minutes to read. But its
powerful message about
people who are homeless
and mentally ill--or those
who are simply
different--will linger with
you for a long time."

"A tale as simple and
elegant as origami
itself....
The Origami Master
could be mistaken for a
long-forgotten gem of
ancient folklore."

A Book Links Lasting Connection
Even as a child, I knew that I wanted to write books. My father wrote two books when I was
little, so I knew that that was something a person could do. Growing up, I loved reading
more than anything, except, perhaps, playing Monopoly and kickball. In my school and
library visits I share my love of writing and reading with students, and encourage them to
make up their own stories. Using my book
The Origami Master as a starting point, I explain
what goes into making a picture book—the role of the writer and the illustrator—and my own
approach to coming up with and telling a story. We also make origami! I am always happy to
tailor my presentations to accommodate the goals of my host.
